Greyton Fauna/Flora Walk, Genandendal Village & Culinary Experience

Location: Greyton, Overberg

Exploring the Greyton mountains on two to three-hour walks along the Riviersonderend river offers surprises at every turn. The Greyton area boasts a rich diversity of plant species, representing both Fynbos and Shale Renosterveld, along with abundant wildlife, including mammals, birds, reptiles, insects, and aquatic species.

Genadendal, situated in the Riviersonderend valley in the Western Cape's Overberg region, lies just 5 kilometers from Greyton. Originally founded as a Moravian mission in 1737 under the name Baviaanskloof, it was later renamed Genadendal in 1806. This village boasts a distinctive history, and it held special significance for Nelson Mandela, who, upon his release from prison and becoming South Africa's first democratic President, chose Genadendal as the name for his official residence in Cape Town.

Your 3rd day kicks off with a thrilling 4x4 safari within the breathtaking Grootbos Nature Reserve. Delve deeper into the reserve's botanical treasures on a guided walk through the unique Florilegium. After a delectable lunch, explore the coastal beauty of de Kelders beach, where you'll embark on a captivating visit to the Klipgat Cave, as you revel in the beauty of the pristine beach extending between de Kelders and Hermanus.

Experience a hands-on Rhino Conservation Adventure spanning three nights (four days) within the remarkable Babanango Game Reserve located in Zululand, KwaZulu Natal. Here, you'll become an integral part of one of southern Africa's most ambitious rewilding initiatives in recent memory.

 

Over the course of two thrilling days, you'll actively engage with the wildlife management team in the heart of the bush, gaining firsthand experience in rhino conservation management as they tirelessly work to safeguard these iconic African animals from the constant threat of poaching. This fully immersive journey provides ample opportunities for engaging discussions and educational insights into this critical conservation intervention. Your accommodations will be in luxurious lodges with full board , accompanied by a dedicated host from The Wandering Dog, ensuring that your every need is attentively met throughout your stay.

The Wandering Dog supports The Bateleurs in their mission to advocate for the environment in South Africa and other parts of Africa.

 

Founded in 1998, The Bateleurs is a Non Profit Company (NPC), with over 200 volunteer pilots and aircraft. It provides its beneficiaries and the public with an aerial perspective of the environment and has coordinated several thousand flights, and diverse missions, throughout South Africa and Africa, in support of environmental issues.
